Congratulations to Ken Brazier
Ken
Brazier (Rotary Club of Princes Risborough) is one of many Rotarians
who give their time and energy to support the work of Mercy Ships.
He first heard of Mercy Ships when a speaker visited
his club four years’ ago, and now speaks regularly on our
behalf with his wife June. They have participated in Rotary Mission
Challenge twice.
After their first trip to Africa, to Sierra Leone
to help build the Hostel of Hope at the Aberdeen West Africa Fistula
Centre, he set himself the challenge of climbing the highest mountain
in Africa in order to raise funds for Mercy Ships’ work in
Africa, and invited people to sponsor his ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro
(19,350 ft).
He has personally raised over £16,000 for Mercy
Ships. He had an amazing experience and a week after his return
from the climb he and June were off to Sierra Leone again to carry
out repair and maintenance at the fistula clinic.
Ken gave a presentation about his Kilimanjaro adventure
to 1090 District Conference (April 2008) and was surprised and moved
to be awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship after his talk.
We congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition
of service and on his achievement in reaching the top of Kilimanjaro.
